 The Benefits of Continuing Education

There are many people who graduate from high school with no idea of where to go from there. This common state of bewilderment is understandable.  The cost of education can be fairly expensive, and one has to be sure that the time and money invested won’t be wasted.  Fear of making this mistake can make a person hesitate to choose a collegiate path, which is the bigger of the two errors.

What they fail to realize is that obtaining an education of any kind can be beneficial and one can always switch majors if they feel so inclined. There is also the option of obtaining online certification should you wish to change career path after graduating from your chosen University.

All well and good, some people say, but what is the big deal about going to college anyway?  Why can’t I simply make my own way and care my own niche in the world?

People who labor under this particular ideology often point out that some millionaires dropped out of school to seek their fortunes. They also indicate that there are people sweeping floors who hold BA’s.

While this fact can’t be disputed there is a bit of a distortion as to the reality of the situation.

In the world of millionaires, only a small number dropped out of school.  These wealthy drop outs often relied on investment capital to get their start. Others, while maybe not filthy rich themselves, were probably related to individuals of means.  In other words, they had the connections necessary to make their fortunes.

In regards to people with degrees working janitorial positions, this is indeed true; however, there are far more people working menial jobs that did not pursue a higher education than those who did.

No matter what, pursuing a degree is a viable option for people who wish to advance in the corporate and business world.

An educated individual is far more likely to earn more money annually than someone who dropped out of school or has only a High School diploma or GED.  A recent study indicated that a college graduate with a bachelor’s degree will earn almost one million dollars more in their lifetime than someone who didn’t go to college.  People with technical or professional agrees, like law or medicine, could see up to 4.4 million more in their lifetimes.

Money is not the only benefit either, as individuals who continue their education often feel happier in general and tend to work jobs that give them higher degree of satisfaction.  Whether you pick an online or a brick and mortar school, it is clear continuing education is full of numerous rewards that are both financial and spiritual.
