Top Five Resilient Careers an Online Degree Can Help Catapult

One of the great things about American culture is our unflagging energy and optimism.  We love happy endings, and believe in them.  When there's a problem we look for the root and fix it.  Right now, the government is trying a host of sweeping programs on for size to redress the economy.  Unfortunately, some perennial troubles can't be fixed, and the boom and bust cycles of capitalism will probably always be one.  The history of the American economy teaches us that recessions and depressions occur regularly.  The best solution for an individual is to ride out the lean times comfortably by pursuing a job in one of these fields, and enhancing their credentials for that position with an online degree.

Nursing

The number one economically resilient job is nursing.  With as few as two years of schooling, you can pursue opportunities in this field. One can even continue school while working as an RN to receive a Bachelor of Science in Nursing completion degree; allowing you to pursue positions in a variety of locations: hospital, group home, school, summer camp, behind a desk, etc. Taking online college classes can bring you closer to a position within this field.

Medical Billing and Coding

Health care is something that we will always need, and as people live longer and the population gets older, that need is ever increasing.  The ubiquity of information technology in health care has opened up opportunities for many jobs.  Students interested in learning more can continue on towards a Bachelor's degree in this field.

Criminal Justice

With a Bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice, you can be better prepared to pursue a job in law enforcement, fraud investigator, etc.  Criminal justice isn't for everyone, but those with a penchant for order and rectitude find the work very satisfying.  Police officers also receive great benefits and retirement plans, key components to rewarding careers. Continued education is often encouraged and may even be paid for by some state agencies. The need for law enforcement isn't going away any time soon.  Working in the public sector with a criminal justice degree is also a good way to avoid the ups and downs that working in the private sector can entail.

Information Technology

Entry level jobs have middle of the road pay, but there is room for advancement in many companies.  The highest level employees run entire networks, and control advanced security systems.  Students who work towards a Master's degree in this field can pursue higher positions within the field.

Business and Management

Now that money is tight, firms are seeking employees with good business sense who can help manage money effectively.  Business is always an excellent education choice.  Finding a job with a company on the rise is a great way to ride through a recession.  Getting a Master's degree in a specific area of business is one path to even more rewarding career opportunities.
